Dạy học là một trong những nghề có tính chất đặc biệt, bởi đối tượng dạy học chính là những thế hệ học sinh đang trong giai đoạn phát triển và hình thành nhân cách, nội tâm phong phú, nhạy cảm. Nhiệm vụ của người thầy giáo là dạy học và giáo dục, góp phần hình thành các phẩm chất và năng lực, nhân cách cho học sinh, do đó nghề dạy học rất sáng tạo, nhân văn, cao quý và vinh quang.

Rèn luyện nghiệp vụ sư phạm còn gọi là “rèn” nghề, hay nói cách khác chính là quá trình rèn luyện liên tục, giúp sinh viên trau dồi được những kỹ năng, năng lực sư phạm cốt lõi. Đây cũng là khâu liên kết giữa lý thuyết với thực hành một cách liên tục và khoa học. Điều này đã được chứng minh qua thực tiễn, nếu trong quá trình đào tạo sinh viên được rèn luyện nghiệp vụ sư phạm bài bản, khoa học sẽ có năng lực nghề vững vàng,  được các địa phương tuyển dụng và ổn định nghề nghiệp khi ra trường.
